LATIN AMERICA: IWMF TO HOLD MEDIA CONFERENCE ON LATINA
JOURNALISTS

The International Women's Media Foundation (IWMF) is organizing a
conference in Santiago, Chile in the spring of 1995 under the
heading "Latin Voices: Women Strengthening the Media." The
conference will bring together women journalists from the
Americas to develop a strategy to promote freedom of the press in
Latin America and explore the role women journalists play in the
context of the additional pressures they face as women and
journalists. "The IWMF believes that no press is truly free
unless women enjoy the same opportunities to present and
administer the news as their male colleagues," said Sherry
Rockey, the IWMF's Executive Director. The IWMF is currently
soliciting suggestions for the conference's agenda. The exact
date is not set. For information, call Sherry Rockey or Katherine
Moore at (703) 820 0607.
