AIDS Information Train in France:
A Travelling Radio broadcasts Far and Wide

On International AIDS Day, December 1, the Association francaise de
lutte contre le sida (AFLS)--French Association for the Struggle
Against AIDS -- inaugurated its first travelling FM radio station
for the purpose of provinding a space for dialogue between the main
actors in the struggle against AIDS, on the one hand, and the
general public, on the other. The station was to visit
approximately 20 cities on its stops.

For ten days the AFLS succeeded in bringing together enough energy
to carry out this ambitious project. The Railway authorities
provided a train for the duration of the operation. The AFLS set
up a studio on the train, as well as spots where the local
associations could exhibit their work. For the first time in its
history, the Conseil Superieur de l'Audiovisuel (Higher Audio-
Visual Council) designated exclusive frequencies for each of the
ten cities, except Lyon.

At each new stage, local radios took part in conducting the show.
Commercial, public and community sttaions all took turns offering a
continuous information program from 12 noon until 9 p.m. It is
worth mentioning that several radios from the Confederation
nationale des radios libres (National Confederation of Free Radios)
took part in this project.
