Hello friends
Here is some information about a conference which may interest you.
Do come if you can get to London - or let me know if you would like
to be sent a report about it afterwards.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
AIRING DIVERSITY
Saturday 25 October 1997, 10am-4.30pm
BBC Bush House, London, UK
A one-day conference and workshops on women, ethnic minorities
and the broadcast media
How does the broadcast media reflect the views, concerns and
aspirations of women, especially those from the ethnic minorities?
Is there still a
`coloured ceiling' as well as a `glass ceiling' in British society
and its media? How does the UK compare with other countries across
Europe and the rest of the world? And what can we do to make a
difference?
Anyone interested in these issues - women and men, from an ethnic
minority or not - is welcome to attend this event.
Whether you are -
* already working in the media and looking for the next move forward
* trying to get your foot on the first rung of the ladder
* representing an organisation with stories which need to be told
- this is your chance to make your voice heard.
PROGRAMME
9.30 registration and coffee
Morning sessions: 10am - 1pm
Chaired by Najma Hafeez, Russell Associates
Speakers' presentations: a look at the current situation for women
from different cultures regarding the broadcast media, especially

* careers: how much has changed? what still needs to be done? how
does the UK compare with other countries?
* on the airwaves: who sets the news agenda? whose stories matter?
can the media help change racist attitudes?

across the broadcasting industry.
