I have an open problem with VMBACKUP 5.3 not restoring *files* from a backup without a catalog. When you don't have a catalog, they call it an INVOL restore. Currently, if the files you want were backed up from a minidisk that the user no longer has defined in his directory entry, the restore job fails to scan the tape for that minidisk. e.g. in my restore I wasn't sure what disk the files were on, so I specified several minidisks. As it turned out, the one minidisk that had been deleted was the one the files were on, but the restore report only listed the other minidisks - it never even attempted to scan the tape for the delete vaddr.
