Jeanne Anne--

I've not used virex but have demo-ed MacPrefect in our lab with
Disinfectant and had no problems. A couple of hints (in case you
haven't already tried them):

Some virus protectors think installer programs are viruses. Many
software developers advise turning off virus protection when doing
any installation.

Likewise, it's often necessary to turn off the *security* software
in order to do a new installation (e.g. we use FoolProof and have it
set not to allow applications to be run from floppies, so I have
to do a keyboard override before running an installer.)

You didn't mention which program was installed first, but you may
have inadvertently locked Virex when configuring MacPrefect, or
locked up something in the system folder that needs to be unlocked
in order to work. Double-check the MacPrefect configuration. Try
shift-rebooting to disable *all* extensions (turn off Virex and
MacPrefect first, then turn them back on manually after rebooting).
If they won't work without the inits, turn off all extensions
*but* those two, reboot, and see what happens.

That's all I can suggest without knowing more details about your
system/network setup and the, uh, (medical analogy alert) "symptoms".
If the above suggestions don't work, I'd contact the two companies
to see if they've had any other reports of conflicts. Good luck!
