----------- Original message below forwarded by NETTRAIN moderator ------------ Date: 02 Feb 1993 09:56:27 -0500 (EST) From: BILL DREW <DREWWE%snymorva.BITNET@UBVM.cc.buffalo.edu> I beleive that if Mr. Hart used a little restraint in the lenght of his postings and edited them down to material relevant to NETTRAIN then it would be appropriate to post them here. A quick note about the NUSIRG (?) guide and Jean's SURFING document would have been sufficient. Mr. Hart's general attitude seems to be that he can post to where ever he thinks it is appropriate. We need to let him know that NETTRAIN and the INTERNET in general are not his personal vanity press. Mr. Hart has his own Bitnet listserv -- it's GUTNBERG@UIUCVMD. It's a standard Bitnet list. To subscribe, send a one line e-mail to LISTSERV@UIUCVMD containing the message SUBSCRIBE GUTNBERG FIRSTNAME LASTNAME where FIRSTNAME and LASTNAME are your name. The listserv distributes all of the Hart corpus. Given the open availability of this list, I would urge the NETTRAIN moderator to delete the Newsletter from NETTRAIN. There already is and it has been around quite a while. In that way, people who wnat the Newsletter can be assured of getting it, and foccussed lists can remain focussed. I've completely read a couple of the postings. It takes a while to get to the really relevant information, then there's not much of it. I feel, as my colleagues on net-train may also feel, that I don't have the time (or the interest?) to deal with such a lenghty posting. I would much rather see the a summary of Gutenburg as was posted earlier by Jim Miles; the summary would be even better if the author removed the "attitude" from it. Mary W. I think that the best alternative is to set itself up as a separate subscription. That way those who want to receive it, can just subscribe to it. Ida Lowe Baruch College/City University of New York
