We have a program called Lanschool (from Intel) that we used to use
for that purpose in a Novell Lan. But it turned out to be such a resource
hog that network servers miles from our place would crash when we had class.
I don't know if it has improved since. (the thing to ask if you want
to know if newer versions would be ok is "does it use network
broadcasts?".)

I can understand that you do not want some students
distracting the group, however, I think you might be
limiting their creativity. People learn at different
speeds and in different ways. To try and force learning
in a specific way, seems to me to defeat the purpose.

        I am probably being ni-eve (can't spell :*) ), but if you
could turn off the key clicks there wouldn't be any
        noise.
