I, for one, take offense at the comment that "anything with ~ is bad"! My site is indexed under a ~, and I have no immediate intention of taking it down! In fact, it belongs to a course that has many sections (mine is only one), and long after I leave this institution, I hope it will remain in place. I've found that it is not an easy task to evaluate a web page just by its domain name. Some of the worthiest sites I've come across in my research have ".com" extensions. Many of my colleagues here have been forced to use commercial sites to place their materials because this institution only began providing web space for its instructors this semester (my site was the result of a pilot program; hence I am one of the few with a site within the University's network). Therefore, the moral of this story is "you can't judge a book by its cover."
