Andy:

I am Steve Skinner. I teach physics at a large suburban HS in
Omaha, NE. we are going to build a new HS in the next 3 years, and there
is much discussion of different schedules. One proposal is to teach 120
minutes of physics each day for one semester, i.e. to teach a one year
course in 1 semester. I am hesitant. I am afraid that only the time
will work out to be equivalent, that the timne required for concepts to
"sink in" will be lost due to acceleration. Is your block schedule
designed for an entire year, or one semester?

On another matter, I am in the process of organizing a "meridian club" for
those along or very close to 96 WEST LONGITUDE. Schools along this meridian
who wish to contribute shadow data needed to determine the circumference of
the earth are welcome to participate, especially those with internet
connections. I will send you a more detailed letter this week via snail
mail. Kelvin school in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada will participate this fall.
