To all high school physics teachers: Our math chairperson expressed to my assistan principal that I do not use " HIGH MATH" in my teaching physics. I think she means calculus. Also, when we were doing vectors and two dimension kinematics, she told me that I should not teach students the resolution of vectors into x and y components but rather use Law of sine and cosine. personally I feel that it is more important for high school physics students to first develop a good understanding of the concepts. Math is a good tool in physics classes, but physics should not be th extension of math classes. To HELP me be sure that I am not on the wrong tract, I need to know what you all are doing. In your introductory high physics classes , NOT AP classes, Do you use calculus and to what extend? YOUR Response would be very much appreciated. judy Ng jng@tjhsst.vak12ed.edu
