I teach Physics at West Allegheny Sr. High several miles outside of Pittsburgh, PA. I do not use calculus in my first year Physics course and when we get to vectors the students learn composition, resolution, and method of components (break up into x and y, then back together with tan and pythagorean thm). They also learn how to use law of sines and cosines. I don't understand why you should be restricted to certain rules (like law of sines and cosines) when the others are very useful and also lend themselves to use in computer programs that can be used.
