Edwin,
From your post it does seem that you want a CAD program. I get offers
weekly for low-end CAD programs, any of which would do the job: Generic
Cad, etc. Quite a few years ago I found DesignCad and it serves my needs
admirably, doesn't take up much disk space, and can be converted to .DXF
files, which wordprocessors can usually accept (make sure of this point).
I use WordPerfect, which can convert .DXF to .WPG files.
CAD files take up less disk space than bit-mapped files.
Over the years I've acquired tons of clip art. None of it has been any
use to me in physics exams. I like to make pictures from scratch.
Another advantage of CAD is that you can make precise graphs from tables
of data, and you can use a programming language to generate the tables of
data. Therefore, when I want a question about a Maxwellian distribution,
or a black body curve, I can be sure that that curve on the page is
*exact* in shape, not an artist's impression of the curve. Some textbooks
can't make that claim! I've even done a beautiful Cornu Sprial this way,
and if anyone would like this in .WPG form, or .DXF I'd be happy to send
it along by e-mail.
