Quality folks, Perhaps if we made our educational offerings a bit more sexy and drove the training home, so to speak, we would be bombarded with requests for our involvment in education and training projects! What makes education 'sexy' in the industrial and service world? This is serious question. Ignore your first responses and remain professional. Given that men and women have different attitudes about learning and forget gender there is need to appeal to non-engineers so what we like may not be designed for them and not sexy, as I am suggesting. (Clarro had great post addressing change management that fits here!) Training is one of those activities that turns everyone off the minute they hear the word...moan, groan...how long am I going to have to sit there? what are they trying to dump on me now? and the managers say it is too costly and interferes with production.... So, as Clarro was suggesting...we must do some planning and start identifying the kinds of competencies...I need help with that language...name some of the competencies other than literate, or not literate may be acceptable for the work....those competencies? I don't mind showing my ignorance by asking questions...only way I've ever learned anything useful was to ask...as those questions tell the teacher where to lead me...
