We don't need no stinking script writers

Warning: this extended flame comes from another experienced mild-mannered
network professional who's tired of newbies deciding that just because they
can find a group that has a cute name, they can put whatever they want in
it.

You know, the kind of newbies who think "comp.risks" is about computerized
versions of the boardgame, "Risk."

If you don't like this flame, flame me, not the list or group. Or better
yet, hold your fire and contemplate whether you have a leg to stand on.

Did you ever think to wowder what the original purpose of this list is? Do
you know what the bit.listserv hierarchy is? Have you ever heard of
LISTSERV?

Do you have a clue that this mailing list, and the newsgroup that
replicates it, have nothing to do with script writing? It has to do with a
computer program called SCRIPT that probably produces more useful output
than you do.

Speaking as a user of the program, SCRIPT, you script writers are free to
go off and find your own group. This list/group already serves a useful
purpose, and we don't appreciate you trying to hijack it.

In other words, you're welcome.... to go away.

Speaking of blood pressures....

>First of all, let's lay a few groundrules:

Netiquette rule #1: know what a mailing list or group is for before
opening your mouth.

Netiquette rule #1a: just because you don't like a group's purpose
doesn't give you the right to hijack it.

Hey, I agree with this advice: know what we're talking about before
you join in.

And, yes, this group does get technical.

>After all, that's why we're called scriptWRITERS, correct?

Obviously, you don't READ the group's purpose, or the list header
for the list that spawned this "group".

>Anyway, a brief introduction to the topic(s) we will be covering, and
>ourselves (my friend and I).

Says you. As I said before, go find your own group.

>I am Canadian, I got my high school education through distance learning,

This group is populated by "stuffed talking heads", some of whom still work
for universities. Mailing lists and even newsgroups all started at
universities.

Go bite some other hand that feeds you.

>I, on the other hand, am coming from the _real_ world.

You probably haven't begun to see the real world yet.

>Well, I think that about covers it, in a nutshell. No one else was

No, you lowered the signal-to-noice ratio badly. If your site isn't
getting the real occasional traffic for SCRIPT-L, that's too bad, but I
doubt you'll miss it. However, if you're reading this flame, that's not
the problem; this was sent via the mailing list, not the newsgroup.

>Well, let's get to it!

Well, whereever "it" is, it ain't here. Get on to it, away from here.

Please.
