Hello to all on the Skywarn Net. My name is Ron, N0POM, and I am the EC for
Sarpy County, NE. More specifically,
Bellevue, NE.  And for all of you geography types, Bellevue is most famous
or infamous depending on your point of view, for  Offutt AFB, home of
Strategic Air Command.

I have been a subcriber to WX-TALK for about a month now, and introduced
myself to Chris, WA9V, and Chris suggested that I try  SKYWARN.  I have been
a spotter and a HAM for about 5 years now, and look forward to participating
in your discussions whenever I can.

I explained to Chris that the Omaha NWS office has 7 HAMs working there.
Certainly not unique but rather unusual
for an office that size. Last year they inherited 40 counties in the Eastern
part of NE and Western IA. when the Congressional budget axe closed the
NWS's office in Grand Island, Norfolk, Lincoln, and Sioux City.  It really
put a strain on the Omaha (Midlands ARES) team to journey to the NWS even
though the severe WX  may be 90 miles to the North and moving NE.

I did hear some disturbing news relayed through our local ARES net the other
nite, that Woodbury Co. Iowa, which
is where Sioux City is located had decided because of budget constraints to
disconnect the CD Sirens in the county (Pop aprox 90,000) rather than
replace/repair them I suppose.

thought that would be much wiser than to just pop up one day with a comment.
