The Clear Lake Area Skywarn Net was activated at about 16:10 CDT on 146.640MHz
(the JSC Repeater) by Glenn - WB5IGX in response to a Severe Thunderstorm
Warning issued by the Houston/Galveston National Weather Service.

Storm spotters checking in were: WB5IGX - Glenn - Net Control, WA5ARI - Reid,
KB5PGY - David, KC5WNK - David, and KD5AOK - Bill. Apologies to any stations I
missed.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was in effect for Harris and surrounding
counties. A cluster of storms in an East-West line were moving south toward
this area. Although there was wind damage and large hail reported north of
Houston, none was reported in Clear Lake. At one point before the rain shaft
passed over NASA Road One there were straightline winds of an estimated 40mph,
ahead of the storm.

The net was closed as the storm passed and the warning expired at about 17:40
CDT.

WB5IGK did a commendable job of running the net in unexpected circumstances,
and the number of check-ins on short notice was encouraging. Warning updates
were transmitted on 145.410 (The Bay Area ARC Repeater in Nassau Bay) as they
were received from the NWS.

SKYWARN is an amateur radio network of volunteer storm-spotters, working in
cooperation with the National Weather Service and emergency management
officials to provide critical information during severe weather events.
