Greetings to the Group,
I want to ask/pose a few questions to the group..So here goes:
[1] Is there any HF SKYWARN informational nets on the air? Sorta like
some of the other HF nets that meet once per week to get together "live"
to network and discuss stuff that pertains to SKYWARN? If not, I think
that this might be a good idea to do once a week, etc..What do the
members of this group think about this idea? Along the same lines, is
anyone out there in SKYWARN land using HF for SVR WX nets or chasing? If
so, what freqs?
[2] The CLT [NC] Area SKYWARN Net has begun using APRS since this
spring..We mostly use it as a back-up to the tactical voice nets. When
the spring storm season rolled through, APRS was used to send damage
reports to the GSP NWSO to help them with WRNG verifications, send watch
and wrng bulletins and to give them a "hard copy" since the "one liners"
dump to a printer at the NWSO. During the summer "pulse svr" tndrstrms,
we are using it for all of the above plus using it to send SVR WX
reports since there is usually not enough time to get a ham to the NWSO
b4 the wrng expires..So far, APRS has worked great! My question, is
there a software program out there that anyone is aware of that takes
the NWS watch and wrng "short fuse" text products, converts them for use
with packet/APRS and then sends them out over packet/APRS? Seems to me
when I was subscribed to the APRS SIG, that I remember reading something
about being able to do this but I'm unable to find the info now {my XYL
"helped" to clean up the shack one day when I was at work! Need I say
more? And please don't ask me to resub to the APRS SIG. Even in "digest"
mode it was still to much volume to handle!}
Tnx for any info concerning my questions. You can respond directly to my
e-mail address, or via this SIG, but I think the rest of us here would
enjoy the info too..
