DOCUMENTATION

     1. Colin Brace (colinb@paramount.nikhefk.nikhef.nl), a member of
        INSOFT-L, sent to me a sample copy of _Language Industry Monitor:
	The World of Natural Language Computing_, a periodical that he
	produces.

	Here's its stated purpose:

	     "Machine translation, speech processing, information
	     retrieval, and electronic publishing--these are just some of
	     the technologies which make up the language industry.
	     _Language Industry Monitor_ brings you news, background, and
	     analysis of the companies, organizations, and individuals
	     active in the world of language processing, one of the most
	     exciting and fast-growing segments of information technology
	     today."

        Articles in the issue that I received include:

	     -- IBM's Translation Manager/2, IBM's entry into the
	        translation software market;

	     -- Announcement that the National Science Foundation (NSF) and
	        the U.S. Defense Department's Advanced Research Projects
		Agency (ARPA) will fund research in language technology;

	     -- Review of the Localization Industry Standards
	        Association's first annual meeting;

	     -- How Houghton Mifflin moved into electronic publishing;

	     -- DEC and Oxford University Press's pilot study into a new
	        style of lexicography;

	     -- EAGLES: Expert Advisory Group on Language Engineering
	        Standards

        _Language Industry Monitor_ is published six times per year. The
	subscription price is $95 USD.

	For additional information, please contact Colin Brace
