What does "iso 9660 compliant filename" mean in a Japanese environment?

Is it 8.3 ?

Does it have to be ASCII, or can it contain Japanese characters?

If Japanese characters are allowed, hankaku katakana (1 byte) only,
or 2-byte chars too?

Thanks,

John F.
