I talked to Borland technical support (on a different issue) and they pointed me to the FAQ that answers this question. I've already gotten the patch installed by reinstalling BCB5 so I haven't tried this out, but it may help others that hit the same problem: Question: When I attempt to install the ADO Express update, it refuses, indicating that C++Builder Update 1 has not been installed. I've tried installing and re-installing Update 1, but the ADO Express Update still will not install. Answer: The ADO Express update checks the version of your C++Builder installation based on the timestamps on the C++Builder executables. If these timestamps have been changed, the update will not install. To resolve this problem, first make certain that C++Buidler 5 Update 1 has, indeed, been installed. Open a command prompt (DOS box) and navigate to your C++Builder 5 Bin directory. Use the TOUCH.EXE program to change the dates on the Builder files with this command (without quotes): "touch -t17:01:00 -d07/08/2000 *.exe" and hit <Enter>. This will restamp the execuatble files with the proper version number. The ADOExpress Update should now install without a problem.
