Determine DBMS using ADO
#180

Hi,

I am creating an application comparable to the Borland SQL Explorer, but
using ADO. The user can add a server by creating a connectionstring. I
would like to know however which type of database i am connecting to. For
example MS SQL Server, MySQL, Informix,... Depending on this, I can add
functionality that is only available for that DBMS.
Is there a way to retrieve this information?

regards,

Koen

Look at Provider in connection string.

If the connection uses odbc, it is impossible to know the dbms via the
connectionstring. However, I've found a solution by querying the Properties
of the connection.

_di_Property_ property;

ADOConnection1->Properties->Get_Item(WideString ("DBMS Version"),
property);
ADOConnection1->Properties->Get_Item(WideString ("DBMS Name"), property);
