This is a good combination for most types of applications. I can't think of any
off the top of my head other than a situation where you must have replication
that Interbase wouldn't be a good solution.

You should have gotten some Interbase manuals for the server side. It will go
into any percularities of InterBase SQL. Other than that would would work with
it like other SQL backends. A good book that I found was the "Delphi 3
Client/Server Developer's Guide" by Ken Henderson. It doesn't have as much to
do with OP as it does with C/S application development, the differences between
the major SQL backends (InterBase included) and general concepts of C/S
development.

12 connections means 12 open database sessions. Interbase licensing allows for
up to 3 connections per license (IB 5.5 ups this to 4 IIRC). Your C/S licenses
are developers licenses only. If you need to deploy for 10 computers, each only
running on application each at a time and each application only uses one DB
connection then you can get away with 4 licenses (12 connections). If you try
to exceed the number of connections that you have licenses for you will get an
error message upon login saying that the max number of users are already
connected.

This is really the wrong group for these questions btw. Your questions were not
about multi-tier development at all. The more appropriate group is the
sqlservers group which is what Interbase is.
