Good day - I am evaluating possible solutions for a distributed system that has RS/6000 application servers, RDBMS, and web browser thin clients. I favor the Delphi/C++Builder approach but have a few questions. I would greatly appreciate any feedback or advice you can offer. 1> Do we have to use MIDAS? - If I want to use C++ Builder, I don't need MIDAS as C++ Builder uses IDL to talk directly to the ORB? 2> Do we have to use the BDE - If my RDBMS is on a RS/6000 server, I don't need the BDE, since the server objects handle the data and my clients just receive the data via the objects. How does this affect my client data design (TDataSet, TTable, etc.)? 3> True thin clients.- Not sure if this is the correct term, but I want to the user to have a quick interface (via browser) and have the business rules enforced on the server. It looks like the term "thin client" is subjective to the vendor. But I think this is possible with C++Builder. 4> COM/CORBA - If I go with C++ Builder I don't need to worry about COM, but I do with Delphi? Thank you in advance for your help.
