This News Group is a God Sent.

I am interested in developing a Web Sight that will allow people to log
and gather information
about themselves and allow them to exchange information.

I am a avid reader but am having a great deal of trouble understanding
where to begin.

First I Read two books on HTML and developed some simple applications
with HTML.

Next I read books on Java and Java Script. I purchased Java 1.0 Workshop
and Visual Java
compiler.  This lead me to believe that a strong understanding of  C and
C++ was a prerequisite to
the understanding and development of Java applications.

This lead to the reading of over fourteen books, cover to cover, dealing
with C and C++
programming. I purchased Visual C++.  But, after reading the licence
agreement I got the
impression that Microsoft would be entitled to a portion of any revenues
derived from
applications that I would developed. I then purchased Borland  C++,
Borland C++ Builder 3, 4
and 5.

I spent  weeks of  developing structures, initializing them, storing
then to a disk file, and then
retrieving them from disk files unsuccessfully.  I need help.  This News
Group could be my
salvation.

After reading a number of the memo�s in the News Group I am getting the
impression that I
should be using Delphi.

Questions:
   Should I be using Delphi instead of Borland C++ Builder 5.
   Where do the various programming languages fit into the development
of Web Sights.
   Where do I get more information that will help further my
understanding of the Web Sight
   development process.
