I am trying to compile an application on Windows 2000 that compiles and runs perfectly OK on Windows 98, but I keep getting the following error message when I try to open a file:- "Exception EFCreateError in module AlphaView.exe at 000C0ABF. Cannot create file ###." Has anybody else out there come across this problem? Is this something to do with the way Windows 2000 stores files / handles file access permissions? Your help would be appreciated. Regards, Dave Smith

If you compile your application under win98 , then does it run under 2000 ? > but I keep getting the following error message when I try to open a file:- > > "Exception EFCreateError in module AlphaView.exe at 000C0ABF. Cannot create file ###." You atre trying -in your app- to create a file with a filename like ###. ? Hans.

Hi Hans, If I compile the application under Windows 98 I still get the same error message when I try to run it under Windows 2000. As for the filename - the error message actually shows three boxes. I wonder - is there a different way of specifying a filename for a Windows 2000 application / filesystem. The filename string is currently in the form:-"C:\\Design\\Software\\AlphaViewer\\Configs\\Ac-Tst000a01v01.cfg" Thanks for your help. Dave

Do you have permissions on 2000 to create files ? To know if the path exists use DirecoryExists() on "C:\\Design" then on "C:\\Design\\Software" and so on. You can also use ForceDirectories() to create all dirs. And to conclude: you have no problem to compile and link your application under 2000 but to let it execute. Hans.

The path definitely exists - and I can create files in the directory using Windows Explorer. If I compile, link and run under Windows 2000 I get the same error as the installed version compiled under Windows 98. Dave
