One of the pitfalls is that there are any "RC formatting codes" or "PRINTF style formatting code" as such. RC files look like a heavily macro-ised lump of source code to me. What is possible is to write a program that takes a RES file, extracts the string resources so you can edit them, and then stuffs them back in afterwards.
