Hello Benjamin,

in my win98 program I was using WaitCommEvent in a thread for receiving.
Sending was done directly with WriteFile from the main thread. This worked
well (without overlapped)
Under XP not only the receiving thread is waiting at WaitCommEvent but all
threads that reach "something that has to do with the COM-handle" wait, if
the receiving thread waits at WaitCommEvent.So it is no longer possible to
send and wait for receive simultaneously even if each is done in its own
thread.

I write this because I am not sure if it was clear where my program hangs.
You adviced me to use one thread for input and one for output. But as much
as I see it, this also will work under XP only when using overlapped. Did I
get you right there?
