Where did you read that? AFAIK, that's not true. I have just finished an 
application which talk to a �P card using RS232. It uses the same handle 
provided by CreateFile() for reading and writing. The reading part is 
placed in its own thread and I just pass the handle to the thread on 
creation. It works like a charm on XP and NT4 at least.
