No. You only need to register it once. > 1) I have to set all parameters in the registry in order to tell > the OS that there might be a dll (if currently registered) that > the shell has to use. Yes. Make sure you are following the requirements outlined in the articles I pointed you to earlier. > 2) if I want the shell to display my own extensions/menus I > have to register the dll (e.g. using REGSVR32) Yes, or manually. All REGSVR32 does is performs the same LoadLibrary/GetProcAddress() approach I mentioned. Either way, the DllRegisterServer() function must be called, and it then sets up the Registry as needed. > If now used any more and the dll is unregistered, does MS RegClean > delete all unused entries in the registry or should I delete them if not > necessary any more? If you do not want the DLL registered anymore, you must call DllUnregisterServer (either via REGSVR32 or manually) and it must then remove any relavant Registry entries for the DLL. > Is there a BCB component that can set/delete all the necessary > entries in the registry (BCB6.0)? Just use the TRegistry class. It only takes a few statements to set everything up. Gambit
