I've used TVicLPT with great success. It not only allows you to send and 
receive data directly to/from a parallel port, you can control 
individual lines in any way you want. It also detects LPT ports on 
non-standard I/O addresses (that is, ports not installed at 378 hex, 278 
hex, 3BC hex). There is an evaluation version that works just like the 
release version. It includes sample projects and a help file.

It is available in a number of forms - including as a VCL component.
