hello, Lets say that there is a client which can connect to a server via port 4100. Is there some way for the client to broadcast a message over the network saying, i am looking for a server on any ip address that responds properly to a packet sent to 4100? This way the client can simply come up on the network without a priori knowledge of what the server's ip/name is. (This would only apply to a network on one side of a router.) i can see where one can simply send a packet to every ip address in the networks sub mask[for(;;)]. but i am wondering if there is another way that would generate less traffic/use less computer resources. (as we have hundreds of laptops connecting to our network daily, and a mask of 255.255.0.0, but really only usually use 10.1.1.x or 10.1.2.x so everything from 10.1.3.x-10.1.255.x usually would be wasted. however, there are no where near 255^2 network jacks/wireless connections to our network) thanks, charlie
