If you are not passing pointers as parameters for the message, then try
using PostMessage() instead of SendMessage().  SendMessage() is slower than
PostMessage() because SendMessage() has to wait for a reply from the window
before it can return, whereas PostMessage() returns immediately.  On the
other hand, though, PostMessage() relies on a message queue whereas
SendMessage() does not, so the speed in which posted messages are handled is
related to the speed in which the message queue is pumping new messages to
the application.
