I have been writing code to talk to COM1 successfully in W98. However, the code runs 10X SLOWER on the new machines where I teach. The technicians tell me: == quote == I have learned from our tech staff that NT 4.0/NT2000/XP all have a Hardware Abstraction Layer, which distances software from the hardware, while 95/98/ME allow applications to talk directly to the hardware. == endquote == Is there anyway I can get around this "abstraction layer?" The code I'm using is in the first few blocks on my website at: http://www.sscnet.ucla.edu/geog/gessler/borland/ezio.txt Thanks, Nick
