If you are running your program inside a debugger (such as C++Builder
5), the NT based versions of Windows (NT/2K/XP) will halt your program
as if it encountered a breakpoint instruction (or DebugBreak() was
called) when F12 is pressed.  To verify that this is what is
happening, try running your program outside of the debugger.  It won't
crash when you press F12 if this is what is happening.

This is an operating system feature, and affects all debuggers (not
just C++Builder's).  You can use a different key to provide this
function in your program or simply avoid using the F12 key while under
the debugger.
