I did not say that SetErrorMode() would get rid of the Access Denied error.
I meant that it woud get rid of the "Try again, Continue, Cancel" prompt
instead.

As for the CreateFile() itself, you did not specify any access rights.  Try
specifying GENERIC_READ instead of 0.
