Vista Form TitleBar Caption length limited to 265?

BCB6 and Vista(Bussiness Ed). I'm displaying (part of) the captiontext right justified to the borderIcons by inserting the required number of space chars to fill up the 'gap'. This worked well up to WinXP. WinVista however causes problems when the form exceeds a certain width, e.g. maximized. It seems that the Caption textlength is limited to 265 characters and all data thereafter is truncated. Can someone confirm this and/or is there a way around? Thanks in advance, Wiebe

If you check the WM_NCPAINT message, then you can find when the frame needs painting. Alan Bellingham -- Team Browns ACCU Conference 2008: 2-5 April 2008 - Oxford (probably), UK

Thanks Alan, I originally did and this worked (also) up to WinXP. However in Vista, painting the titlebar is an entirely different thing since one has to deal with Aero Theme Glass and DWM (Desktop Windows Manager) bussiness. Up till now I did not succeed and tried, in vain, to accomplish things the other way. BTW, I might have drawn the wrong conclusion because it seems that also in WinXP the captiontext length is limited. But, due to font differences?, under Vista the captiontext required more 'filling' spaces. (An 'invisible' wider filling character would do the trick.) Ah, I see. I must admit, I've not tried Vista yet. Well, it's partly installed on a machine at home, but it needs up-to-date drivers, and until then it can't see the RAID volume, and ... you know the drill. >Up till now I did not succeed and tried, in vain, to accomplish things >the other way. > >BTW, I might have drawn the wrong conclusion because it seems >that also in WinXP the captiontext length is limited. I think this particular technique is going to be fault prone, simply because of the unpredictability of relative character widths, etc. etc. I can see how you were tempted into trying to fudge it, but I can only assume you've ended up going down a dead end path.
