HDD failure detection (raid1 configuration)

Hello
I am developing a C++ application which has to detect when a HDD stops
working properly.
HDDs are connected to a RAID controller, and the PC is running Windows XP.
How could I get a state, or a anything else? Is there a API funtion which is
able to read the states from the controller?

Thanks for any idea or help.

Tobias

I'm thinking DeviceIoControl()
Perhaps with FSCTL_IS_VOLUME_MOUNTED

There might also be something in the VDS
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa381442.aspx

You might also check with the manufacturer of your controler.

Thanks for the answer,
I have problems with DeviceIoControl(). I don't know how to get a handle for
the second disk. Because the System see the 2 disks as one. I think the
problem is the Raid Controller?
VDS I have a look on it, but the function I think they are right require
Vista. Or I am false? Correct me please.

Thanks for any help
Paul

Did you use \\.\PHYSICALDRIVE0 \\.\PHYSICALDRIVE1?

Could be. Have you contacted the manufacturer yet?
