I have a new project coming up that will be run on a PDA running Windows Mobil, which I understand to be PocketPC. I have never had a PDA, so I know nothing about them. Further, the Boss says we are not to use anything that requires the .NET Framework, MFC, etc. because this would cause the application to bog down (I don't know why; I've never used a PDA.). This project is to be created using "Native C++." What's Native C++? How do I ensure I am creating something that is Native C++ using Borland BCB6? Is this the right place to research information about Native C++? If not, where? Is this a good place to research information about developing PDA applications? If not, where? Thanks in advance.

This project is to be created using "Native C++." You need a C++ development system for the PDA. BCB is a native C++ development system for Win32. (If you were allowed to do a .NET solution, then it would be another matter, but you boss has said 'No' to that.) You probably need to talk to the producers of the particular PDA to get a development system from them. Download Microsoft EVT 4.0 and appropriate SDK from microsoft website 2. Get a Visual Studio 2005 standard or higher because that one has a compact .NET framework support and appropriate SDK Here are the links: "Microsoft EVC 4.0" http://tinyurl.com/3la35 "EVC 4.0 SP4" http://tinyurl.com/hzoh5 "Windows Mobile 5.0 SDK for Pocket PC" http://tinyurl.com/opun2 "Windows Mobile 5.0 SDK for Smartphone" http://tinyurl.com/qs66u "SDK for Windows Mobile 2003-based Pocket PCs" http://tinyurl.com/8sg7l "Microsoft ActiveSync 4.1 " http://tinyurl.com/c9ttm

Your boss just means straight C++ code without all the bells and whistles of libraries and frameworks. > How do I ensure I am creating something that is Native C++ > using Borland BCB6? File | New | Other | Console Wizard Enable C++ Disable VCL/CLX and "Console Application" options Now you have a bare-bones application with no VCL access at all, but full Win32 API access. > Is this a good place to research information about developing > PDA applications? All you really need to to make sure that all API functions and types that you use in our code are available on Windows CE. Gambit

You read the relevant help files and documentation for your Windows CE development system, or go to MSDN (http://msdn.microsoft.com).
