Hi all, just another quick request for info from the pro's - microsofts newsgroups are crap... I've got a very specific design requirement and problem. I've got a gina-stub running on the system that i've coded in BCB. Within it I have serveral BCB-TForm desendent dialogs to provide the user with help options. Everything works perfectly fine, no problems, no AV's, no leaks. However, I now need to display some help that is in an html format on one of these dialog. I figured the best method would be to embed the html into the resource and then use the TCppWebBrowser VCL to display it. However, when I drop the component on the form and run it i.e. as the gina-stub, in the context of LOCAL_SYSTEM, the form fails to load or display. I've try.. catch(...)'ed it so I know there is an exception being generated after that i'm a bit stuck. One of the problems is that there are issues using the normal ShowMessage or MessageBox api's in this context so it's a bit difficult to debug. I've tried displaying GetLastError on one of the captions on the form but all I get is that the Operation was complete sucessfully. Does anyone have any ideas... I've got a felling it might be a security / permissions issue or some dependance on a service that has not fully started. Any help would be great, Thanks in advance... Mike C

Please show a code fragment that reproduces the error. Hans.

A gina-stub is stub, feed-through or relay DLL that sits between Winlogon and msgina.dll. GINA stands for Graphical Identification and Authentication! >> .. Including the vcl seems to have the effect of causing an exception of some sort.. > What does one have to do to run something 'in the context of > LOCAL_SYSTEM'? Winlogon.exe which is responcible for launching the gina-stub runs in the context of LOCAL_SYSTEM... > Please show a code fragment that reproduces the error. - sorry, like i've said, there is no code to show, you will not be able to reproduce this error unless you to have developed a gina-stub and have included the TCppWebBrowser vcl with it. > Hans.

LOCAL_SYSTEM'?
LOCAL_SYSTEM is a built-in system account. Services and WinLogon run under
this account.

The Win32 API MessageBox() function should be working fine. Don't use the VCL's TApplication::MessageBox() method. > I've tried displaying GetLastError on one of the captions on the > form but all I get is that the Operation was complete sucessfully. The return value of GetLastError() sometimes gets reset when a VCL exception is thrown. There is a bug in the Exception constructor that does not preserve the existing value of GetLastError(). Gambit

Thanks for the pointers... I initially posted on the of chance that this might be a known bug as is sometimes the case. I didn't know about GetLastError being reset so i will persue the reporting of the exception further. As for the Win32 api MessageBox, there are some issues using - winlogon provides a wrapper for it, WlxMessageBox but my form can't see this wrapper or the WinlogonFunctions from the point where the expection is being generated. Also, as a closing point (and showing my lack of knowledge) what is the best way to report the exception when you capture it with catch (...)?
