Unresolved external refers to old BCB6 app directory?

My application folder in BCB6 was C:\Program Files\Borland\CBuilder6\Projects\MyAppFolder. After installing BCB2007 I moved that entire folder to C:\PROGRAM FILES\CODEGEAR\RAD STUDIO\5.0\PROJECTS\MyAppFolder. The NEWOBJS package is where I've defined my own components. I removed this package from the component palette and reinstalled it using the NewObjs package in the C:\PROGRAM FILES\CODEGEAR\RAD STUDIO\5.0\PROJECTS\MyAppFolder\NewObjs folder. When I try to rebuild the app BCB2007 I get 4 similar errors e,g, [ILINK32 Error] Error: Unresolved external '__fastcall Db::TDataSet::Resync(System::Set<Db::DB__06, 0, 1>)' referenced from C:\PROGRAM FILES\CODEGEAR\RAD STUDIO\5.0\PROJECTS\LIB\NEWOBJSPACKAGE.LIB|C:\Program Files\Borland\CBuilder6\Projects\MyAppFolder\NewObjs\NewObjs.cpp I don't understand what the '|' signifies in the above error message but can't understand why there is any reference to the old NewObjs folder. I've checked all the Project Option Paths etc. as well as my cbprj file and cannot see the old folder referenced anywhere. Anyone any idea why this is happening?

Cheers Larry. I removed it from the system path but the problem remained. I then temporarily renamed the Borland folder Borland0 so that the old offending folder could not be found. Didn't make any difference. The same 4 errors contained a reference to the now non-existent folder. I have seen such weird things happen inside the Program Files folder in vista that I can't say this is down to bcb2007 although regardless of that I'm at a loss as to how bcb2007 was finding that folder when it did exist. I'm also at a loss as to what the 4 errors have to do with me as they all refer to bcb methods that I haven't redefined. Just a guess - That sorta looks like NEWOBJSPACKAGE.LIB might contain an object that was built in the old location - are you sure _everything_ was rebuilt - did you clean out all objs/.libs/all-compiler-generated-output for that package when you relocated it to its BCB2007 location, before rebuilding/re-installing the package? Sounds like you did not recompile NEWOBJSPACKAGE.LIB using Studio's compiler. You cannot reuse .lib and .obj files from compilers earlier than BDS2006 in RAD2007. Such files are version-specific (in the specific case of 2006->2007, the two are binary compatible with each other, but that is not the case in other versions). Gambit

As far as I know I did dhoke. The only thing I didn't change was the 'Requires', which contained bdertl.bpi, dbrtl.bpi, rtl.bpi. vcl.bpi and vcl.db.bpi, as I wasn't sure if the compiler added these automatically. Should I have removed them? As far as I know, I did Remy although, having rebuilt and reinstalled the package several times today, the dates of some files are confusing me. I've unistalled the NewObjs package. I've renamed the NewObjs directory NewObjs0. I've then created a new blank package, added a unit, renamed the unit NewObjs.cpp and the package NewObjsPackage.cpp and placed them in a new folder called NewObjs. I've then copied the contents of the old NewObjs.cpp and old NewObjs.h and pasted them into the NewObjs.cpp and NewObjs.h files in the new package. When I try to build the NewObjs package I get the message [ILINK32 Error] Fatal: Unable to open file 'EXTCTRLS.OBJ' I don't suppose anyone can tell me why it can't open the file?

Do you have any #pragma link statements or includes in your project for EXTCTRLS? I didn't before Larry but I added #include <ExtCtrls.hpp> to the NewObjs.h header file. It didn't make any difference. The 'Requires' now only contains rtl.bpi. Should it contain others and, if so, how are you expected to know what it should contain? It seems there is no ExtCtrls.obj in either bcb6 or bcb2007 so why the f is it looking for it? Is it looking for it in a library that should be in the Requires list? I finally got it to build after adding the same .bpi files to the Requires list as it had before. and was then able to successfully install the components. I then tried building my full application and guess what? I need two empty dummy libraries stlpmt.lib and stlpmti.lib to get it to compile and I end up with the exact 4 error messages I had before, including the reference to the old bcb6 NewObjs folder. WTF? I finally got rid of the errors although I can't claim to understand what was going on. It was down to the fact that when I copied the Projects folder over to the bcb2007 directory, the folder that bcb6 stored the NewObjs, lib file in was included. All was well after I deleted that, although I'm at a loss as to why the bcb2007 app was accessing it anyway.

Any chance (?) there's a "global" level library search path set , that bcb2007 "picked up" (maybe from project, maybe from earlier BCB installation configuration), and is still part of bcb2007's configuration... Might want to look for that and eliminate it, mostly in case there are other items (paths) with it that could cause you add'l grief in the future... I've looked everywhere dhoke. I even scrubbed the bcb6 directories from the system path. The environment variables are OK as well.
