Hyperthreading is a feature of many new CPUs that makes a single
processor appear to be two processors and allows faster processing when
multiple threads or processes are running. IB 6 is not hyperthreading
aware and one of the results is long connect times. The only known
solutions are 1) disable hyperthreading in the system's BIOS and 2)
upgrade to a current version of IB. If you use the current version of
IB connections will be virtually instantaneous.

IB 6 also has a slow connection on Windows Server 2003 due to a change
Microsoft made in the TCP/IP stack. The only fix for this is upgrade to
a current version of IB.
