I have compiled an applet in JBuilder2 using the AWT components in
JDK 1.1.6. In descending order of containment, I have a Frame, a ScrollPane,
a Panel, and several Choices. My code at one point resizes the Frame so that
the
viewport of the ScrollPane is just wide enough to cause the horizontal
scroll bar to
disappear. The problem is, when running in the JBuilder2 appletviewer,
everything works OK.
However, when loaded over the web in IE5, the ScrollPane viewport is not
made quite large enough to cause the horizontal scroll bar to disappear.
I noticed that the ScrollPane's insets were not returned in IE5 so I was
able to kludgily
get the insets by subtracting the VScrollbarWidth from the ScrollPane's
width.
When however, I had the ScrollPane viewport sizing itself correctly, I then
had an object at the bottom of the containment hierarchy sizing itself at
greater than its preferred size.

I think somebody may know the answer to this from a general principle
according to the above description, hence the fact that I have not posted
any code. Would that person please step forward?!
