Why does setting MultiSelect on GridControl override SelectRow?

I know the JBuilder help confirms that setting MultiSelect to TRUE in a 
GridControl overrides the SelectRow property, but I think that stinks.  Why is 
this the case?  I want to select multiple rows (not cells).
