Memory allocation injava

Is there a way to tell Java Virtual Machine that's
I'm going to allocate some amount of memory ?
My app allocates many rather small objects
(10000 to 1M objects, about 20-50 bytes each)
When I run my app with -verbosegc, I can see that JVM
allocates small chunks of memory (4K) from system, and
allocating my objects takes quite long
(even several minutes). I want to make JVM to allocate
larger blocks at once to make it faster. Anyone have
some clue how to do it ?
