   Back in the good old usenet days, we would simply email the
postmaster for the server that originated the address, and most of the
time, he or she would comply by warning the user and/or cutting off
access. Only a couple of years, but millions of users later, there is no
such authority to complain to.

Now, most of these spammers don't even use real email addresses, so if
you try to send them mail (which used to be a reasonably effective
technique), you just get it all back.

I wish there was a way to enforce, automatically, that all email
addresses in posted messages were legit. Perhaps some sort of automated
moderator could be set up for this purpose. Hmm. Something to think
about.
