=o= According to Caltrans' own research (which Mike Vandeman
has posted here before), widening freeways does *not* alleviate
congestion.  It simply makes the congestion bigger.

=o= And if you'd like to see this in action, just head south
a bit, to the newly-expanded part of I-880.

=o= BART works pretty well, though the plethora of other systems
of public transportation diminish its effectiveness.  The
interconnectivity one sees with, say, the MBTA in the Boston
area would be most welcome here (though if that would mean that
the quality of management would drop to that of the weakest
link -- AC Transit -- that would be a big lose).
