You might consider the quartz-halogen lamps -- they use considerably
less energy than incandescents (Tungsten-type), and they give a very
nice light -- somewhat more like daylight than either flourescent or
incandescent.

The flicker of incandescents bother me -- especially the beat frequency
created by my 66Hz monitor and the 60Hz fluorescents.

QH lamps are DC -- the cheap ones have -- you guessed it, transformers
that buzz.  The expensive ones don't.
