I'm looking for information about lead-substitute metal alloys that have the following characteristics: 1) heavy 2) soft (not brittle) 3) low melting point 4) inexpensive 5) easily obtained/produced 6) castable (for small mold pouring with fine detail) 7) non-toxic (important...this alloy would be for use in areas where lead is restricted to protect the environment). Lead meets the first 6 of these 7 criteria, but the 7th is perhaps the most important. I have heard certain zinc alloys are being used, but I do not have much information about them. From what I understand, these alloys are relatively expensive, and do not pour well into molds with any amount of detail. If you have any information or ideas, or even if you have just the slightest hint of a clue, I'd be grateful to hear from you. Thanks, Jeff. ps.
