In 1980 the National Park Service (NPS) asked the public what they 
wanted in Yosemite National Park. The Public said that they wanted less
development and better opportunities to appreciate the natural resource.
The planning document that said all this was the 1980 General Management
Plan (GMP).

Now, the Park Service has released the Draft Concession Services Plan 
for Yosemite. The NPS says they want the next concessioner to build 
more "motel-type" accomodations within the Park and to provide the
public with more fast-food opportunities. In order to accomplish this the
next concessioner will be required to remove low-cost housing and to retain
and remodel food service areas slated for removal under the GMP. Of course,
all of this will result in increased profits for the concessioner.

This week the NPS is holding public meetings on the Draft Concession
Services Plan in 4 locations. This is the public's chance to voice support
for the 1980 GMP by getting the Park Service to drop its current "preferred
alternative," and draw up a new plan.

The locations and times of the public meetings are:

Los Angeles: January 29(Wednesday), 7pm, USC, Davidson Conference Center
Fresno:Jan. 30(Thursday), 7pm, Convention Center, Sanger Room, Ventura & O St.
San Francisco: Jan. 31(Friday), 7pm, Fort Mason(upper), Building 201
Yosemite: Feb. 1(Saturday), 1pm, Yosemite Valley Visitor's Center

Testimony is limited to 3 minutes. Written comments on the plan are due on
