This oil spill has clearly begun to look like a case of gross
lack of oversight on the part of the federal government, and 
lack of preparedness on the part of Exxon.  Does anyone
really trust the company when they publish a letter in 
major newspapers claiming that they responded as quickly as
possible to the spill?

Would that this disaster encourages drivers to stop and
think before getting in their cars and driving two blocks
to the grocery store.  I believe the time has long since
passed for California to raise the gasoline tax,
as a way to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and fund
non-polluting alternative sources of transport like light
rail, not just more freeways.
